About us

Living and working here on the edge of Dartmoor,

we have an abundance of local growers and suppliers

whose produce helps us to lovingly create delicious,

wholesome and seasonally inspired food.

Chef Samantha Sastry's Indian heritage and creative appetite

are reflected in our emphasis on world cuisine.

Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free dishes

are naturally a big part of our menus.

We offer just two pop-up dining events a year -

exciting menus for an unforgettable culinary experience.

The Gateway is also available for private parties of up to 20 guests,

or we can bring the Gateway to you!

"Quite simply, the food was beautiful.

I absolutely recommend this restaurant"

Our story

We took over the long-established Gateway Tea Room in 2015, breathing new life into the 17th century building, and creating a menu with traditional elements as well as more adventurous and

exotic dishes.

Every winter we transformed the tea room into an authentic South Indian thali restaurant, and last year we decided to make the transformation permanent and offer globally-inspired food along with homely meals in a comfortable restaurant setting.

We are blessed on Dartmoor with a wealth of mindful producers who, like us, believe that local, low-impact, sustainable food and drink supplies should be the norm.  For us, locally sourced means just up the road!
