Welcome to the Gateway

The Gateway is named for our location on the edge of high Dartmoor.

Our comfortable, intimate restaurant offers the ideal surroundings

to enjoy freshly cooked food at its best.

We have a licensed bar offering wines, beers, spirits and cocktails.

Instead of being open continuously, we are now offering

a series of pop-up dining events throughout the year.

About us

Our emphasis is on Indian and Middle Eastern cuisine,

as well as dishes from other countries and closer to home.

We use produce from local growers and suppliers

to lovingly create delicious, wholesome and

seasonally inspired food.

Instead of being open continuously,

we are offering a series of pop-up

dining events through the year,

as well as occasional cocktail evenings.

The Gateway is also available for

private parties of up to 20 guests.

"Quite simply, the food was beautiful.

I absolutely recommend this restaurant"

Our second pop-up dining event of 2022,

Gateway to the Middle East and North Africa

draws on the exotic, vibrant cuisines of the Middle East and North Africa.

On offer is a sumptuous taster menu

with a variety of dishes and a unique range of flavours.

Every element is cooked fresh here in our kitchens

by chef Samantha Sastry.

The Gateway to the Middle East and North Africa

will be held on these

Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings:

June 16th, 17th, 18th

June 23rd, 24th, 25th

June 30th, July 1st & 2nd

The cost is £38.00 per person, and booking is essential –

dates fill up fast.

Drinks are available at our licensed bar at normal prices.

Later in the year we will offer our Korean food adventure;

also look out for occasional cocktail evenings with

street food taster plates.

Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free dishes are naturally

a big part of our menus; our meat and fish are sourced locally.

Yes, we are experienced at providing for special dietary requirements -

Yes, there is some on-street parking right outside, unrestricted in the evening.  Otherwise there are car parks at Station Road and Court Street, both a short walk and free after 6:00pm.

Do you accept credit / debit cards?

Yes, we take most major cards, except AmEx and Diners.

Our story

We took over the long-established Gateway Tea Room in 2015, breathing new life into the 17th century building, and creating a menu with traditional elements as well as more adventurous and exotic dishes.

Every winter we transformed the tea room into an authentic South Indian thali restaurant, and last year we decided to make the transformation permanent and offer globally-inspired food along with homely meals in a comfortable restaurant setting.

We are blessed on Dartmoor with a wealth of mindful producers who, like us, believe that local, low-impact, sustainable food and drink supplies should be the norm.  For us, locally sourced means just up the road!
